The NBA 3×3 European tour hit North London in style with an exciting weekend of basketball action at London’s premier outdoor hoops playground, Ducketts Common in Turnpike Lane.

Featuring competitions for multiple age groups for both males and females, the event brought the action back to the playground in style and took advantage of the ‘summer of sun’ as teams battled it out in 30 degree heat for the NBA 3×3 London crown.

NBA All-Star Al Horford, from the Atlanta Hawks, was also on hand to take in the action, meet and greet fans and bring the ‘star power’ to proceedings.  High-flying slam dunkers, fan zones, Skills Challenges, Stub Hub and Footlocker shooting competitions all added to the spectacle and elevated the weekend celebration of hoops to another level.

However, when it was all said and done, the main attraction was the competition itself which saw some hotly contested games played out across all divisions.  The U16 boys final, in particular, was an exciting ‘down to the wire’ affair with the Lewisham Thunder edging out the Haringey Hawks in a TRIPLE OVERTIME thriller!  Javel Small from Haringey fought hard the whole way, twice sending the game into OT with clutch plays, but ultimately it was Jason Witter from Lewisham who led his team home to the hard earned victory with slicing drives and finishes at the cup and composed shooting at the foul line to seal the deal.

In the men’s division the homecourt team from Ducketts Common defeated the ‘tough as nails’ Old School team of savvy veterans behind the hot shooting and flamboyant play of Lawrence Gaston.  Old School looked to be in control of the game with their dead-eye 3 point shooting and solid pick-and-pop fundamentals, racing out to an early 6 point lead.  However a freak accident saw one of the Old School players break an elbow on a hustle play, which stopped the action for a while and forced Old School to go to their bench.  It was then Gaston began to take control and led the Ducketts Common team to a well-earned victory on their home court.
