The London Lions are London’s biggest professional basketball club. Based at the Copper Box Arena on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the Lions represent a new era in professional basketball for London and aim to provide a real legacy for the sport, inspired by the 2012 London Olympics.
A key feature of the 2012 Olympic legacy was to support and provide the development of elite level basketball in London. The London Lions franchise delivers on that promise through the provision of ‘top-level’ opportunities for gifted & talented Londoners to continue to progress up the elite player pathway through to the highest levels of basketball competition in Britain.
The longer-term aim is to continue to develop the professional opportunities provided by the club and eventually venture into European professional competitions. We aim to facilitate the very best levels of professional competition for British players to continue to develop their skills playing against top-tier international competition, which in turn will continue to strengthen the overall standard of basketball throughout Britain.
The Lions currently feature a roster predominantly filled with players born and bred in the capital, and serves as a testament to the quality and huge potential of the basketball talent London possesses.
The Lions form part of a 3-way ‘legacy’ partnership between Reach & Teach, London Lions and GLL, which is aimed at establishing a comprehensive basketball development strategy across London that facilitates opportunities from the community grassroots through to the highest levels of elite play.[divider]
