London’s premier basketball team quickly got back to winning ways with arguably their best performance of the young season so far, with a proficient 87-71 dismantling of the upstart Cheshire Phoenix.
Coming into the game, the Phoenix had been the talk of the BBL, in large part to the high-profile signings of former NBA guard Julius Hodge and high-scoring All-American, Taylor King. Add newly anointed BBL player of the month Demond Watt to the Phoenix nest and it was understandable why the Lions approached the game with caution.
“When you have the type of firepower Cheshire have amassed over these past few weeks, any team in the BBL would do well to sit up and pay attention” said Lions head coach Vince Macaulay.
As it turned out, perhaps it was the Lions trio of Drew Sullivan (13pts/14reb/5ast), Zaire Taylor (21pts/8ast/6reb) and Lovell Cook (24pts) who the rest of the league should have on their radar, as their collective pedigree appears to be coming into bloom.
