KATE HOEY MP VISITS R&T CLINIC

LONDON COMMISSIONER FOR SPORT KATE HOEY

London Commissioner for Sport, MP Kate Hoey, paid a supportive visit to a Reach & Teach basketball clinic which took place at the Lilian Baylis Old School in Lambeth in partnership with the North Lambeth & Southwark Sports Action Zone (SAZ).

The clinic played a pivotal role in the SAZ Community Sports Open Day, which was aimed at stimulating local participation in young people, across a number of sports. R&T coaches proved to be the centre of attention, with over 60 youngsters flocking to their free sessions to take part in the fun-filled drills and skills.

Commenting on the active coaching and animated participation of the young players, MP Kate Hoey said, "This is outstanding and exactly what is needed in the area!" - also taking time out to personally congratulate R&T's event co-ordinator Jackson Gibbons on a job well done. Gibbons added "Anytime you get an opportunity to learn the game of basketball from the likes of Junior Williams and the other excellent coaches assembled for this clinic - you jump at the chance. I think the turnout and positive attitude displayed today demonstrates that, while proving just how popular basketball is amongst young people".

Brian Dickens, Director of Lambeth & Southwark Sports Action Zone, commented "The work R&T have done in putting this clinic on has been fantastic and underpins the sessions they continue to deliver for the local community as part of our ongoing partnership. We recognise basketball as a high interest sport in the area, but for many of the local kids there are too many barriers preventing them from participating. We're committed to providing top quality coaching and playing opportunities which are easily within reach for the local community, Reach & Teach are driving full steam ahead in delivering on the basketball program that is fulfilling that commitment."
