CBL U18’s action kicked off at The Regal with North London outfit CONEL Warriors playing their first organised game in the CBL in convincing fashion, with a strong win against Brent Blazers. CONEL were coached by British Basketball legend Mike Martin, who seemed to have his troops well prepared on both ends of the floor with the impressive Robert Striganavicius (17 points) and D’Jon Golding (12 rebounds) leading the way.
In the best game of the day, CONEL lost out by 2 points in overtime to the more experienced Brent Ballers in a matchup that could have gone either way. Ultimately the athletic play of game MVP Ricky Hirani and the well rounded attack of the team from West London proved to be decisive in the exciting match up.
In other games, last season’s U16 champions, Hackney Kings beat Newham Youngbloods, with Josh Ausena (Kings) being named MVP:
Brent Ballers second game of the day was a slightly easier affair as they ran past UC Jr Ducks 51-16, behind MVP Dean Maxwell:
In the last game of the day, Haringey Hawks eased out to a comfortable win against the Southwark Legends behind steady play from Hawks game MVP Elliot Quale:
